Are you working toward the completion of a degree in the LIS (library & information science) field?  If so, you could earn a $200 scholarship toward your school expenses from LIScomm!  We are a new site and need your help getting the word out and helping to grow critical discussion.

Requirements:

Become a member of LIScomm (read the Rules of Use first).

Choose one of the following topics:
• Discuss why the free and open exchange of ideas and/or critical discourse are necessary to the LIS field and/or profession.
• Discuss the merits and pitfalls of anonymity in online discourse; and how it impacts the LIS field and/or profession.
• Discuss a grave threat to the LIS field and/or profession; at-large or in a specific discipline.  Propose a solution(s).
• Discuss problem(s) you think are overrepresented in the LIS profession, and why.  Propose a solution(s).

Choose one of the following response styles:
• Record a 3-5 minute video.  (Please email Admina a URL hosted by an online video site or from your online storage account.)
• Write a 2-3 page persuasive essay. (Times New Roman, 12-font, double-spaced, 1” Margins)

Promote LIScomm:
You must either, Tweet @LIScomm with the following:

"I’m a LIS student applying for the Fall 2016 @LIScomm $200 Scholarship.  Check out http://liscomm.userboard.net/t24-liscomm-200-lis-scholarship for details!"

-or-

"I’m a LIS student applying for the Fall 2016 LIScomm $200 Scholarship.  Check out http://liscomm.userboard.net/t24-liscomm-200-lis-schlarship for details!"

and provide a link to your post in your email submission.

You may or may not decide to reference authoritative sources for your topic responses.  If you do use them, please provide a Bibliography (for the video response), or Works Cited or References (for the essay response).  The Citation Style (MLA, APA, Chicago etc.) is also at your discretion, but please identify which style you are using. –For assistance with understanding Works Cited vs. References vs. Bibliography, you may want to check out Skyline College's page.

Create a LIScomm discussion thread on a critical topic of your choice and encourage participation:
Do so before the deadline; generate at least 3 other individual member responses, and include a link to it in your submission.  (Feel free to appeal publicly for participation to make your quota!)

Terms for Applicants:
Know that your winning submission(s) along with your preferred identity (real or LIScomm) and university will be publicized through LIScomm’s social media account(s) and available on the LIScomm forum for at least one full year.  You are welcome to use your submission elsewhere for other scholarship opportunities.  Only one submission per person.  Your submissions will constitute an acceptance of these terms.

Unfortunately, we had no applicants!  Maybe we'll try again next year if membership picks up.
